Statement from Jersey City Mayoral candidate Lewis Spears on the Fulop’s campaign threat to file formal complaints with ELEC

Spears

Running as independents is not easy, but I am proud to run alongside candidates who have demonstrated their commitment to putting the needs of the people over politics. The people deserve to hear our ideas for this great city and to make their choices accordingly because that is what democracy is all about, a healthy exchange of ideas with the best interests of our constituents at heart.

I think most folks know that we officially kicked off our campaign—fundraising and all—on July 8, which was after the quarterly filing deadline on June 30. We’re a month in, and as a matter of fact, if there are any Jersey city residents who would like to make a donation to our campaign please do so! We could use the funds, given the incumbent’s well-publicized “war chest” from wealthy donors. We believe in the power of our community, the power of shared ideas, and above all our shared vision to build the city our children deserve. Please know that any donations to the Spears for Jersey City campaign will be an investment in the future of this city, a city that takes care of all its residents and not just the most wealthy.
