Statement from Newark, NJ Civilian Complaint Review Board Chairman, Richard H. Robinson III regarding the recent United States Presidential/Vice-Presidential Election.
Newark, N.J. – November 7, 2020 – Congratulations are in order to our newly elected-U.S. President, Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. and Vice-President elect, Kamala Devi Harris, as national election results have confirmed their victory.
This election proved to be the highest voting effort by the American people for a U.S. President and Vice-President of all time. Consequently, there was a record voting turnout counted for our new President/Vice-President-elect (Biden/Harris) and counted for the former President/Vice-President (Donald J. Trump/Michael R. Pence).
Clearly, this historic occasion resonates with significant importance in our society, pertaining to embracing and accepting our democratic values. With that said, the Newark, NJ Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) looks forward to the day where that embracement and acceptance of the democratic process will eventually lead our society to incorporate those important attributes in addressing misconduct behavior by Law Enforcement Officials across our nation.
In recent months, we have all witnessed egregious, abusive and dehumanizing acts by some Law Enforcement Officials, involving excessive use of force that has led to the unfortunate deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Jonathan Price and the paralyzing state of Jacob Blake.
The Newark CCRB truly believes that this change in our Presidency/Vice-Presidency will spearhead stakeholders to ultimately look more closely at police brutality matters. With the necessary tools, we can avoid instances regarding unnecessary death and injuries resulting from unlawful and unethical police conduct and the violation of civil rights of all human life in this Country .
