STATEMENT FROM PBA ON JUDGE POLANSKY’S  INJUNCTION ON COUNTY’S PLAN TO TRANSFER INMATES TO SALEM, ATLANTIC COUNTIES

(VINELAND, NJ) – Stuart Alterman, attorney for PBA Local 231, today issued the following statement on Judge Steven J. Polansky’s injunction on Cumberland County’s Department of Corrections’ plan to transfer inmates to Salem, Atlantic counties:

“Judge Polansky today ruled on what we knew all along: Warden Smith and the county have no concrete plan to transfer inmates to Salem and Atlantic counties and ensure the integrity of the criminal justice system in Cumberland County.

“Mr. Duddy did an excellent job of illuminating the insufficient preparation and planning conducted by the county regarding the proper transfer of inmates, preserving their rights, and protecting their health and safety.

“The PBA looks forward to our day in court, to build upon these arguments, and to fight for all 105 officers whose livelihoods are on the line.
