SULEIMAN STATEMENT ON VBM MAILING ERROR IN ATLANTIC COUNTY
(ABSECON) Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Michael Suleiman released the following statement about the recent Vote by Mail mailing error in Atlantic County:
“Last night, I was informed that the insert inside the Vote by Mail ballot mailing incorrectly listed the date of the election as Tuesday, November 7. This sloppy, unnecessary error has the potential to confuse the over 23,000 voters in Atlantic County who have signed up to receive a mail-in ballot. While those of us in the political bubble know that Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, we cannot assume that everyday Atlantic County residents do. This is especially important since mail-in ballots need to be postmarked on or before Election Day in order to be counted.
“I have asked the County Clerk to send a corrective letter or postcard to these voters to clarify that Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. I have also asked that future inserts be corrected so that anyone requesting a mail-in ballot from now until the election is supplied with the correct information.
“This is yet another embarrassing example of election-related incompetence in Atlantic County that makes us all look bad. Had this happened under a Democratic County Clerk, the other side would be apoplectic right now. Instead, Republicans are using their error as a reason to disparage Vote by Mail and early voting, which is unconscionable. We should be working in a bipartisan fashion to increase voter turnout, not discourage it.
“The County Clerk needs to do the right thing and send out a corrective mailing ASAP.”
