LGBTQ+ Dems Caucus Encourages Supporting LGBTQ Candidates

As we conclude Pride Month, we have a few favors to ask you! Today, Wednesday, June 30, 2021, is National #GiveOutDay!

1) Please check out our website and donate to our LGBTQ Candidates running this cycle. They cannot run and get elected without your support.

2) Please make sure to buy your ticket for the Statewide LGBTQ Caucus Gala on Friday, October 1, 2021. In addition, please consider giving a recurring monthly donation or one-time gift to the NJ LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus so we can continue the great work statewide.

3) Please make sure to support an LGBTQ non-profit locally or nationally. During Covid-19, our non-profits have been hit hard and we need to make sure we step up and support them.

LGBTQ people ensure policies and legislation are inclusive, humanize anti-LGBTQ efforts, and change hearts and minds. While LGBTQ people are running for office in historic numbers, we still remain severely underrepresented at every level of government. LGBTQ people make up 5.6 percent of the US population but hold just 0.19 percent of elected positions. Currently just 989 LGBTQ elected officials in the nation… we need to elect 22,800 more LGBTQ people to achieve equitable representation in the United States.

In New Jersey, there are zero out LGBTQ members in the state legislature – one of just five states in the nation with no LGBTQ state legislators. Other states are deep red states: Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Dakota. LGBTQ Victory Fund has endorsed Vincent Solomeno as a Spotlight Candidate. Solomeno would be the first out LGBTQ member of the New Jersey state senate if elected.
