Sweeney Speaks at New Brunswick Performing Arts Center Opening Night Celebration

Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney attended the opening of the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center (NBPAC) last night. The center is the result of a public-private partnership between DEVCO, Pennrose Properties, the City of New Brunswick, Middlesex County, the NJ Economic Development Authority, the New Brunswick Cultural Center, Rutgers University and the New Brunswick Parking Authority.

“New Brunswick is a shining example of the good that can be done through public-private partnerships,” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “This facility is going to have a massive impact on the city’s economy, creating jobs, attracting tourists and generating revenue. I hope NBPAC serves as a model of how public and private entities can come together to create groundbreaking, multiuse spaces throught our state.”

The NBPAC is a transformational project that has propelled New Brunswick’s Downtown Cultural Arts Districts into the spotlight as the region’s leading lifestyle hub for the performing arts.

“It is an incredible feeling to finally see this facility open and hosting its first performance,” said Christopher Paladino, President of the New Brunswick Development Corporation. “We truly appreciate the support of the Senate President because without him, the things we’ve been able to accomplish in the city of New Brunswick would not have been possible w. I look forward to his continued support as well as many more exciting performances at the NBPAC.”

The NBPAC features two state-of-the-art theatrical venues, dedicated rehearsal studios, academic and office space, as well as 207 residential rental apartments and public parking lot. With an investment of more than $170 million, the public-private partnership is one of the most significant urban development initiatives in New Jersey.
