Sweeney Welcomes Wage Increase for Direct Care Workers Caring for Those with Developmental Disabilities

Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement welcoming the announcement by the New Jersey Department of Human Services of a temporary wage increases for the next three months for direct support professionals who care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in group homes or supervised apartments, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic:

“The COVID crisis has created difficult demands for the direct care workers who are on the frontline providing care for those who live with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I understand and value the type of work they do. They are professionals with heart. They deserve this pay increases along with our appreciation for the service they provide to those in need. The dedication, compassion and commitment they have always exhibited is even more important during this pandemic.”
