Teaneck Councilman Pagan Issues Statement on Protests in Cuba

Teaneck, N.J. – Teaneck Councilman Michael Santiago Pagan issued the following statement on the recent protests in Cuba:

“I am saddened and disturbed of the brutal response by the Cuban regime to peaceful protests this past weekend throughout Cuba. I stand with the Cuban people who are bravely asserting their fundamental human rights after 62 years of living under tyranny. Those rights, including the right of peaceful protest and the right to freely determine their own future, must be respected by the Cuban regime.

The Cuban regime must stop hurting their own people. They must recognize that their people are hurting and that they want to be heard. My heart goes out to our Latino brothers and sisters in Cuba, and it is my hope that one day we see a free and democratic Cuba, with a government that truly cares for its people.”
