Torrissi and Umba comment on ‘inappropriate’ state curriculum
LUMBERTON – Assembly members Michael Torrissi and Brandon Umba pledged to stand with parents after revelations of the New Jersey Department of Education’s divisive new sample curriculum.
“No one is more important in a child’s life than their parents, and it boggles the mind that I would even have to state that, but that’s where we seem to be at this moment,” Umba said.
“Parents must be treated as the primary stakeholder in any discussions involving their child’s education. The state should not make a habit of sneaking through controversial curriculum in hopes of circumventing a parent’s input.”
The 8th District Legislators came out against the leaked lesson plans that introduce heavy gender identity issues and sexual issues to children as early as first grade.
“School’s are not parents, and they’re not responsible for teaching our young children very intimate and inappropriate subjects. Let the kids be kids, and leave it to parents to determine how and when to introduce these topics to their young children,” Torrissi said.
“We will continue to be on the lookout for any signs of the state attempting to implement curriculum that crosses the line with parents and make sure we get back to the days where moms and dads have a say in raising and educating their children.”
