Township Council Adopts Second Straight
Flat Tax Rate Budget
Bridgewater, NJ – At last night’s Township Council meeting, the Bridgewater Town Council adopted the 2022 Municipal Budget, keeping the tax rate flat for Bridgewater residents. The 2022 budget is the second consecutive budget with no municipal tax rate increase for Bridgewater taxpayers.
“I am glad that the Council came through yet again for the people of Bridgewater,” said Mayor Matthew Moench. “It was imperative that this budget be adopted in a timely fashion so that the people’s business can proceed uninterrupted, and that’s exactly what the Council accomplished.”
This budget, which covers the municipal portion of a resident’s property tax bill in Bridgewater, is approximately 11% of the total property tax bill. The balance is represented by the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District, Somerset County and, to a much smaller extent, the local Fire Districts.
“The Township Council scrutinized the proposed budget, including both the expenditures and anticipated revenues, and collaborated with the Mayor and Administration to reach a final budget that reflects the priorities for our community,” said Council Vice-President Michael Kirsh. “As a member of the Finance Committee, I am proud of the work we’ve done to maintain the high quality of services and fiscal discipline Bridgewater residents deserve, within the context of continued uncertain times for many key costs.”
“Adopting this budget keeps our town moving forward,” said Council President Allen Kurdyla. “The taxpayers of Bridgewater trust us with the responsibility of making sure the township functions precisely as it should. That is exactly what we’ve done in the past, it’s what we’ve done tonight, and what we will continue to do with and for the people of Bridgewater.” |
