Township Mayor Reaffirms Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion and Respect for All Residents During Recent Council Meeting
Willingboro, N.J. --

In light of recent comments made by a member of the Council during previous Township Council meetings, Mayor Samantha E. Whitfield issued the following statement at Tuesday's meeting to reaffirm the municipality’s unwavering commitment to being a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming community for all. Acknowledging the occasion of Cinco de Mayo, Mayor Whitfield reaffirmed the Council's commitment to not only the Latino community but to the entire community and reiterated their efforts to strengthen community relationships, encourage open dialogue, and promote cultural understanding in our Township. |
"I understand that many people were hurt and disappointed by the remarks that were made and by what followed afterward. I want to be clear that those comments do not reflect the values of this Township or the views of the Council as a whole, said Mayor Whitfield. "In Willingboro, we believe in treating all people with dignity and respect."
The mayor emphasized that while individual viewpoints may vary, the Township Council as a whole remains firmly committed to a leadership that reflects a diverse community.
“We will not always agree, but we must hold ourselves to a standard of leadership that reflects the diverse community we serve. My hope is that we move forward with greater understanding, accountability, and a commitment to bringing people together rather than dividing them,” said Mayor Whitfield.
Residents are encouraged to continue engaging with local leadership and participating in community conversations that promote unity and mutual respect. Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm, unless otherwise noted. Meetings are held in the Courtroom in the Municipal Complex. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19th.
