Treasury Begins Issuing Senior Freeze Reimbursements Under New Combined Property Tax Relief Application

Program Now Streamlined with ANCHOR and Stay NJ

Filing Deadline is October 31, 2025

(TRENTON) The New Jersey Division of Taxation has begun mailing Senior Freeze property tax reimbursement checks for the 2024 benefit year. This year, eligible seniors and disabled residents only need to fill out one application, the PAS-1, to apply for Senior Freeze, ANCHOR, and the new Stay NJ program.

The first round of payments began this week, with more to follow each week as applications are processed. The deadline to apply is October 31, 2025.

“With the implementation of the PAS-1 application, New Jersey seniors now have an easier way to apply for all three property tax relief programs,” said State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio. “Our hope is that the new streamlined process will help to increase the number of eligible seniors receiving the benefits they deserve.”

Key updates for 2025:

  • Single application for homeowners and renters age 65+ or those receiving Social Security Disability as of December 31, 2024
  • No need to calculate reimbursement amounts; the system will handle that based on your base year
  • New income standards and simplified form design
  • Stay NJ benefits slated to be released in early 2026

The Stay NJ program offers property tax benefits to eligible homeowners aged 65 and older. It reimburses applicants for 50% of their 2024 property tax bills with a maximum benefit of $6,500.

Previous recipients of Senior Freeze should note that while the form has changed, their base year and eligibility history remain intact, unless interrupted by a property tax reassessment.
