Trenton City Council Statement on Criminal Incident at Cure Arena

Trenton N.J. – Trenton City Council members express their condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Khalil Glanton, who lost his life in a deadly attack after attending the Mercer County Basketball Tournament last Thursday.  We also extend our deepest sympathies to all who witnessed or have been impacted by this senseless act of violence and loss of life. There is never any instance in which such violence should ever be tolerated, nor should it be normalized in any community.

Following the incident at the Cure Arena, which was attended by most of the City Council members, immediate concerns were raised as to whether all appropriate security measures and protocols had been implemented and followed.

As a Council, we call on the Mercer County Improvement Authority to conduct a full and thorough investigation into security measures employed that evening and throughout the tournament to prevent a horrific event like this from ever happening again. We also call for the Trenton Police Department to investigate any possible security breakdowns or breaches that may have occurred.

The Cure Arena is located in the city of Trenton, and all Trentonians and any other attendees should feel safe attending events there. We look forward to learning about preventive security measures that will be implemented at the Cure Arena and how those currently in place will be improved.
