Trenton COVID-19 Business Restrictions to Remain Until January
1,189 New Cases Since Last Declaration in Mid-November
Trenton, N.J. – Mayor W. Reed Gusciora today announced that the COVID-19 restrictions announced Nov. 13, 2020 will remain in place until Jan. 3, 2021.
The restrictions were originally scheduled to last until Dec. 5, 2020. However, the number of new daily cases remains high. Trenton has had over 186 new cases in just the last five days, with a total of 5,787 COVID-19 cases and 81 related deaths to date.
Mayor Gusciora’s amended State of Emergency instructions remain in place:
- All Trenton businesses, including restaurants, bars and grocery stores must close at 10:00 p.m. daily. Gas stations may stay open only to dispense gas.
- Restaurants and drive-through businesses may be open for pickup or delivery until 11:00 p.m., provided that no parties are allowed to congregate inside or outside of the establishment.
- All city residents are encouraged to remain indoors after 10:00 p.m.
- All city residents should wear masks and practice social distancing techniques as recommended by the CDC by avoiding large crowds, and, whenever possible, keeping a distance of six feet from other people.
- All City residents are strongly encouraged to avoid large family gatherings on holidays and especially not to host visitors from states that are on the Governor’s travel advisory list.
“Given the fact we had nearly 1,200 new cases since we announced these restrictions back in November, it’s clear that we are not out of the woods in this second wave,” said Mayor Gusciora. “In the meantime, we continue to arrange spot testing at areas in the city where they are needed the most and encourage all our residents to wear masks and practice social distancing. We need to do whatever we can as a community to avoid spreading COVID-19 to our loved ones this holiday season.”
The Gusciora Administration arranged a walk-up COVID-19 testing site at Unity Square Park in the East Ward last week in response to data showing the surrounding neighborhoods have been among some of the hardest hit in recent weeks. More than 400 people who came to the park were tested. Earlier this week, the administration also tested 84 people at the Rescue Mission of Trenton.
