Trenton Firemen Receive Advanced Certifications from Federal Government

16 Servicemen Pass FEMA Exam

Trenton N.J. – Mayor Reed Gusciora is announcing today that 16 Firefighters at the Trenton Fire Department (TFD) have successfully completed a 300-level course from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA), Emergency Management Institute.

“We now have over a dozen more Trenton Firemen who can take the helm should disaster strike.” Asserted Fire Director Sawyer. “Professional development is a necessity in 2019. We can always be getting better, and we are getting better.”

The Fire Department has also reviewed and begun to update the Emergency Operations Plan for the City.

“The facts are in front of us. We need to be prepared for whatever mother nature throws at us,” said Trenton’s Mayor Gusciora. “We are lucky to not be constantly worried about an earthquake or a mudslide. But snowstorms, tornadoes, simple power outages happen all the time in the Garden State. We are making sure that we are as ready as possible.”

The course requires that candidates complete four other pre-requisite FEMA classes in order to enroll and must pass a comprehensive examination. Students had to develop their own Action Plan, and illustrate that they could implement those plans, for a simulated incident.
