Turner Issues Statement on Harms of Daylight Saving Time

Trenton – Senator Shirley Turner issued the following statement highlighting her bill, S-3781, which would establish permanent daylight saving time in New Jersey and stressing the harms of the biannual time change:

“The problem with daylight saving time is not just the hassle of changing your clocks twice a year, it also wreaks havoc on your body, disrupting sleep patterns for up to a week following the change. While the extra hour of sleep and earlier sunrise feels nice now, the loss of an hour in the spring has been linked to an increase in car accidents and even an increase in heart attacks. That is why I introduced legislation to shift permanently to daylight saving time. By getting rid of the time change we can completely avoid the negative side effects of this outdated, unnecessary practice and rest easy all year round.”
