Two NJEA members honored as ASCD Emerging Leaders
Trenton, NJ — The New Jersey Education Association is proud to announce that ASCD (formerly known as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) has welcomed two New Jersey educators into its 2022 Class of Emerging Leaders. Those selected are individuals who have made an impact as leaders in their schools, districts, and communities and have been in education for 5 to 15 years.

Corrina Parsio is an AP Biology and Anatomy & Physiology educator for Somerville Public Schools in Somerville. “I am not surprised that Corrina has received this award,” said Somerville Education Association President Patrick Frain.” She is an amazing teacher who goes above and beyond, day in and day out, for all of her students.”

Angello Villarreal is a Teacher of Spanish for Freehold Township High School in Freehold. Angelo Villarreal is a lifelong learner who truly understands how significant a positive teacher/student relationship is when cultivating a learning environment of excellence,” said Sarah Reichenbecher, president of Freehold Regional HS Education Association. “He is approachable, compassionate, and provides a model of advocacy and scholarship for the students in his class and his peers throughout the profession. He cares about his colleagues and school community and leads by example in everything he does.”

NJEA’s officers, President Sean M. Spiller, Vice President Steve Beatty and Secretary-Treasurer Petal Robertson, commended Parsio and Villarreal on their achievement. “Talented educators like Corrina and Angello are the reason our schools are number one in the country. Our members are dedicated, passionate, and innovative life-long learners who value real world experience and who put their knowledge to use helping students and colleagues alike. All NJEA members will benefit from the experience that Corrina and Angello will gain in their new role with ASCD.”

As Emerging Leaders, Parsio and Villarreal will be honored at the ASCD Leadership Summit later this month. In addition, Emerging Leaders gain access to various opportunities that will prepare them for future leadership roles, including leadership within ASCD.
