Uber and Jersey City Expand Support for Vulnerable Populations with $10,000 in Grants to Support Education Efforts
JERSEY CITY – Uber and the City of Jersey City announced today that their successful partnership in combating COVID-19 will expand with $10,000 in mini grants awarded to local community outreach organizations to support targeted education efforts in vulnerable populations. The announcement comes after Uber and Jersey City announced a groundbreaking partnership earlier this year to provide 12,000 free rides to Jersey City seniors and frontline workers to local COVID-19 vaccination sites.
“We continue to look for ways to expand our vaccination efforts to make sure that our residents are protected,” said Mayor Steven Fulop. “Building off of the success we had with our first venture with Uber, I am excited to roll out this new program to inform vulnerable populations in Jersey City about the vaccines. Uber has been an excellent partner that is clearly invested in our community.”
The $10,000 in grants will be distributed in equal $2,500 mini-grants and have been awarded to Hudson Pride, Greenville Neighborhood Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2294 and Welcome Home. All of these community partners have deep ties in various parts of Jersey City with different populations.
“The wellbeing of the communities we serve is a top priority for us,” said Alix Anfang, Spokesperson for Uber New Jersey. “Our initial partnership with the City of Jersey City was such a success we wanted to expand our community assistance, these grants will enable the city to expand its education efforts and get more people vaccinated to put an end to this virus.”
