UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL AGAIN NAMED ONE OF AMERICA’S BEST EMPLOYERS IN NEW JERSEY IN ANNUAL RANKING BY FORBES

Hospital Recognized as a Top Employer in New Jersey

as it Continues Its Track Record of Success and Achievement

NEWARK, NJ — For the second consecutive year, University Hospital (UH), New Jersey’s public acute care hospital and the principal teaching hospital for Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) and Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RDSM), was recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Employers by State for 2022. Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to create this recognition through a survey of 70,000 employees nationwide across 25 industry sectors, including healthcare. University Hospital was selected along with 89 other corporations in New Jersey.

For healthcare companies, direct recommendations from employees and general workers in the industry were used as determining factors. To obtain the ranking, the publication conducted anonymous surveys on a rolling basis from October 2021 to June 2022.

This latest honor adds to a number of recognition and achievements by University Hospital in 2022. In recent months, UH has:

• Received three awards from the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® and Get With The Guidelines® programs, which recognize hospitals that reduce barriers to prompt treatment for cardiovascular events. The AHA recognized University Hospital in the areas of heart failure and stroke care, as well as Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
• Became the first hospital in New Jersey to offer the 3D ultrasound-MRI fusion technology to conduct the transperineal prostate biopsy procedure, as part of an extensive list of innovative resources used for diagnosing cancer, in cooperation with Rutgers NJMS. This new procedure is part of the continuing effort to bring the most advanced diagnostic procedures and technology to the region.
• Received reaccreditation for the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey at University Hospital – in cooperation with Rutgers University and the Rutgers NJMS – from the Commission on Cancer (CoC). The CoC is a quality program of the American College of Surgeons.

• Expanded its robotic surgery offerings with the acquisition of two new da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery systems. University Hospital is one of only three acute care hospitals in New Jersey with both the da Vinci Xi and da Vinci SP robotic surgery units, and the only hospital in Essex County to offer both platforms. The hospital is also one of the few that utilize the robotic surgery approach across such a wide range of specialties.

University Hospital is also in the process of developing a new Master Plan that will address the driving issues of the present, while establishing an actionable plan for the next several decades that will help the Hospital create state-of-the-art, fiscally responsible solutions for the future. A renewed and expanded University Hospital would set the facility apart as a destination where the academic and clinical missions of healthcare and medicine converge for the ultimate benefit of patients and the community. With the guidance of a Master Plan, and in partnership with Rutgers NJMS, University Hospital has the potential to become a national model for public health and a premier regional resource for advanced services across many medical specialties.
