Vainieri Huttle Calls on Coughlin, Greenwald and Johnson

to Stop Stalling the Reproductive Freedom Act

Valerie Vainieri Huttle, author of the Reproductive Freedom Act, landmark legislation to safeguard Roe v. Wade and expand access to reproductive health care for all New Jerseyans, issued the following statement:

In the face of a hostile Supreme Court shaped by the Trump Administration, there is more urgency now than ever for New Jersey to show true leadership and pass the Reproductive Freedom Act.

And with the recent announcement that the Supreme Court will take up a case on abortion access, Roe v. Wade is more at-risk than ever before to be overturned or eviscerated.

These threats to Roe v. Wade are not new, that is why I authored the Reproductive Freedom Act, landmark legislation that would safeguard Roe v. Wade in New Jersey and expand access to reproductive health care for all New Jerseyans.

But, despite the immediate threats to abortion access, legislative leadership continues to double down, refusing to even post the Reproductive Freedom Act for a hearing. In the General Assembly, our top 3 ranking members, Assemblymen Coughlin, Greenwald and Johnson, continue to stall this critical legislation.

This is the cold, hard truth: this is what happens when just 30% of the seats in the legislature are held by women, this is what happens when 70% of New Jersey’s legislators are male. When women are left out of the halls of power, women’s rights always seem to be kept on the back burner.

Here is my strong, clear message to Speaker Coughlin, Majority Leader Greenwald and Speaker Pro Tempore Johnson: enough with the excuses, it’s time to step up and show true leadership, it’s time to pass the Reproductive Freedom Act.
