In the final District 37 debate before the June 8th primary, Vainieri Huttle emerged as the clear winner.

Following the League of Women Voters Candidate Forum last night, Valerie Vainieri Huttle issued the following statement:

Last night, I once again proved to the voters of District 37 that I fight for them. Yet again, Gordon Johnson was unprepared and unwilling to make his views known. Meanwhile, I was proud to showcase my record and platform clearly to the voters.

The debate demonstrated the clear difference between my opponent and me: I don’t just show up to cast my vote, I do the hard work of writing the landmark laws that make our State safer, healthier and more equitable, that’s what a real leader does.

 It was telling that I had to remind Assemblyman Johnson that it is one thing to sponsor a bill, it’s another thing to do the work to author the legislation. Gordon Johnson can continue to tout his support of the bills that I have written, from expanding LGBTQ rights to protecting women’s rights, but the difference is, I wrote the laws and I fought for them- simply put I led, Gordon followed.

Here’s the bottom-line, leadership matters, a record is about more than how you vote, it’s about who you fight for. You can’t just be a vote, you have to be a voice.

Last night, I proved to the voters yet again that I am the proven, effective leader District 37 needs alongside my running mates Gervonn Romney Rice and Lauren Kohn Dayton. Together, we are ready to kick some glass and continue creating sound policy that our communities need.
