Diaz and Council Ignore Pandemic Response and Politically Exploit Needy Families
Perth Amboy, N.J. (October 20, 2020): Perth Amboy has been one of Middlesex Counties communities hit disproportionately hardest by the coronavirus pandemic. Instead of determining why and doing everything possible to curb the tide, Mayor Wilda Diaz has used the crisis as a shameful political opportunity to advance her re-election this year.
To date, Perth Amboy has claimed 22 percent of the coronavirus cases reported in Middlesex County. Official Census data indicates Perth Amboy is home to 6 percent of the central Jersey counties population.
Even more disappointing is Diaz’s campaign literature falsely states, “one of the strongest responses to coronavirus in state.”
“The City has failed miserably in controlling or slowing the spread of Covid-19. Mayor Diaz and the City Council share equally by ignoring the obvious health and safety conditions that have persisted within our community and has made Perth Amboy the counties epicenter for corona virus. With a surge at our doorstep, unless something affirmative is done, more unnecessary deaths will occur,” stated Joseph B. Vas.
“Shamefully and disgracefully Diaz has exploited the unimaginable hardship families are facing by prancing around the City taking credit for food that private businesses have donated and embarrassing residents with unwanted photo ops as well as inquiries about their mail in ballots, added Vas. “Residents should be allowed to obtain the assistance they deserve and need without political pressure or exploitation,” concluded Vas.
