Vitale, Coughlin & Lopez Announce Free Naloxone Distribution
TRENTON – Senator Joe Vitale, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez announced the distribution of Naloxone at six locations in their legislative district. The life-saving overdose reversal drug will be available to residents at pharmacies participating in the statewide “Naloxone Distribution Event” from September 24 through September 26.
The drug, commonly known as Narcan, will be free to residents with no name needed, no prescription and no appointment. Those who obtain Naloxone will also be given information on addiction treatment and recovery through Reach NJ, a 24-hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week addiction hotline.
“This is a life-saving drug that can rescue overdose victims from the brink of death. The opioid crisis that has plagued the country has become worse during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has fueled drug abuse and caused an increase in overdose deaths. This is a way of combating a drug crisis in the midst of a public health crisis,” Senator Vitale, Assembly Speaker Coughlin and Assemblywoman Lopez said in a joint statement.
