WASHINGTON — Voices of Tomorrow Press is proud to announce the release of its debut children’s book, Shmoo & Ozzie Go to Washington, available June 30. Written for readers ages 4 to 8, the book introduces young children—and the grown-ups reading along with them—to the power of bipartisanship and the idea that working together, even when we disagree, can make a real difference.
The book is the work of two first-time authors, Ellie Gottheimer and Larra Mullin, both rising high school seniors. Their debut also marks the launch of Voices of Tomorrow Press, a publishing company built by young authors, for young authors.
The two authors are longtime friends whose families know each other well. Ellie is the daughter of U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, a Democrat, and Larra is the daughter of Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma, a Republican former Congressman and Senator who now serves as U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security—a friendship across the aisle that mirrors the book’s message.
“We’re thrilled to introduce our debut book, Shmoo & Ozzie Go to Washington,” said the authors. “This heartwarming story introduces kids—and their parents—to the power of bipartisanship, showing how working together, even when we disagree, can make a real difference. Fun, engaging, and full of heart, it’s a story the whole family will love.”
Proceeds from the book will benefit Project Night Night, a nonprofit that each year provides tens of thousands of homeless children with packages containing a security blanket, a stuffed animal, and an age-appropriate book to support their sense of security and early literacy. The partnership reflects the authors’ belief that every child deserves access to books and the comfort of a bedtime story.
Warm, funny, and full of heart, Shmoo & Ozzie Go to Washington turns a big civic idea into a story families can share together—planting early seeds of empathy, cooperation, and good citizenship.

About the Authors
Ellie Gottheimer is a high school student from Tenafly, New Jersey. When she isn’t studying, she can be found playing field hockey, reading, spending time with friends, and cuddling with her dog Rosie—better known as Shmoo, the book’s namesake.
Larra Mullin is a high school student from Bixby, Oklahoma, and the fourth of six siblings—and many dogs, including Ozzie, the book’s other namesake. Alongside her devoted faith, her biggest loves are going on mission trips and competing on her high school wrestling team. She started wrestling at age five and is still going strong.
