FOR WANT OF $490,000 NEW JERSEY RESIDENTS
DENIED OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR
ALL VOICES IN GUBERNATORIAL DEBATES!!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 18, 2021
Even dressed as a $490,000 bill, they still wouldn’t let Madelyn Hoffman onto the debate stage at Rowan University!
Princess Blanding, Liberation Party candidate for Governor in Virginia and Madelyn Hoffman, Green Party candidate for Governor in New Jersey cross-endorse each other. In the only two gubernatorial races in the U.S. this November, both independent candidates were kept off the debate stage!! Both are Good Party certified, as well. Check it out here: here.
On Tuesday, October 12th, Democrat Phil Murphy and Republican Jack Ciatterelli held the 2nd of two gubernatorial debates that required by the NJ Election Law Enforcement Commission — open only to those candidates able to raise $490,000.00!!
Apparently, this is only news to those candidates who are excluded from the debates for failure to raise just $10,000 less than half a million dollars! And, since both participating candidates raised that amount of money, almost $1 million was used to buy the candidates’ way into the debates.
A recent article reported that almost $58 million has been raised for this year’s gubernatorial race. Add that to the $2 million spent by Phil Murphy during an uncontested primary. Of all this money, the Green Party of New Jersey’s candidate, Madelyn Hoffman, raised the most of the other 2 ballot-qualified independent candidates–about $12,000. These kinds of numbers paint the picture of a democracy up for grabs — as the cliche goes “we are living in the best democracy money can buy!” And that’s wrong!
“In almost 30 years of challenging the so-called ‘two-party system’ this has to rank as one of the most outrageous abuses of political power in New Jersey politics,” said Madelyn Hoffman, the Green Party of New Jersey’s candidate for Governor. “This kind of law (passed by the New Jersey legislature for ELEC) allows the so-called elites a monopoly on being able to put their policies in front of the New Jersey voting public. In so doing, they do a tremendous disservice to the state of New Jersey. Pretending that these are the only two candidates in the race, when other independents are working extremely hard day in and day out to earn people’s votes, is granting way too much power to the Democrats and the Republicans and the media who cover for them. If I sound angry, it’s because I am — angrier than I have ever been at the way this political system favors the rich and the 2 mainstream political parties that are not addressing the needs of the majority of New Jerseyans. Any poll done shows that the majority of people want to vote for a different political party Unfortunately, this system doesn’t want to grant them that opportunity.”
On October 12th, the Green Party candidate for Governor of New Jersey dressed up as a $490,000.00 bill to prove the point that raising so much money is the only way to have alternative voices heard. (See photo above.) The Hoffman/Warburton campaign published a TikTok video about this situation here.
The Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial race are the only 2 gubernatorial races this election cycle. In both cases, the independent candidates for governor are excluded by big monied interests. It’s about time that this changes! It is necessary that voters hear from all ballot-qualified candidates about their positions on issues. Especially during this pandemic, many more people have realized that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are serving their interests.
