Warren County Prosecutor: Tax Collector Pleads Guilty To Stealing Property Tax Money
Rachellyn Mosher (nee: Edinger), was the Municipal Tax Collector for White,
Harmony, and Lopatcong Townships. On March 11, 2021, Ms. Mosher was indicted
by a Hunterdon County Grand Jury after a two-year investigation into the
misappropriation of approximately $824,000 in property tax money paid by residents
between 2013 and 2018.
On March 24, 2021, Ms. Mosher plead guilty in Hunterdon County Superior
Court to one count of Official Misconduct, N.J.S.A. 2C:30-2, to encompass the theft of
the money from all three towns. The terms of Ms. Mosher’s plea agreement are as
follows:
Five (5) years in New Jersey State Prison subject to a four (4) year
mandatory period of parole ineligibility
Restitution in the amount of $924,813.28 which includes the total theft
amount and expenses incurred by the municipalities as a result of the
theft
Lifetime ban on public employment
Complete forfeiture of pension: contributions made by the State will be
reclaimed by the State, personal contributions will be surrendered as a
credit against the restitution amount
Sentencing is scheduled for Friday, May 14, 2021, at 130PM.
The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office conducted the investigation alongside
