Association Vice President

TRENTON, May 20, 2021 – Knowlton Township Board of Education President Tammeisha D. Smith was re-elected to a second two-year term as vice president for finance of the New Jersey School Boards Association during the organization’s semi-annual Delegate Assembly. The meeting took place virtually on Saturday, May 15.

She has been a member of the Knowlton Township School Board for 10 years, including service as its president for seven years and vice president for one year. She has been a member of the NJSBA Legislative and Finance Committees, Vice President for the Warren County School Boards Association and earned the designations of Certified Board Member in 2018, Master Board Member in April 2020 and Certified Board Leader in April 2021.

Smith is a Governor’s Appointee to the N.J. Department of Health – Office on Minority and Multicultural Health, sits on the Board of Trustees of Luke’s University Health Network, the Saint Michael’s Medical Center Community Advisory Board, and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) N.J. Leadership Council.

The New Jersey School Boards Association is a non-partisan federation of the state’s local boards of education, providing training, advocacy and support services to promote student achievement through effective local school board governance.

“My Number One priority,” Smith said after being re-elected, “is to ensure NJSBA is operating effectively and efficiently as an Association so we can continue to provide our membership the educational tools and resources they need to be successful leaders in their communities.”

She currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer at the Dunbar Center, a healthcare facility in Newark, and she has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA), Trinity College & University.

The NJSBA delegates also elected the following local school board members to Officer positions: President – Irene LeFebvre, of Boonton Town, Morris County; Vice President for County Activities – Bruce Young, of Carlstadt-East Rutherford, Bergen County; and Vice President for Legislation/Resolutions – Karen Cortellino, M.D., of Montville Township, Morris County.

Michael McClure of Maple Share, Burlington County, completed his term as NJSBA president at the conclusion of the delegates’ meeting on Saturday. He now assumes the office of Immediate Past President.
