Worthy Issues Statement on Opportunity Zones in Trenton

TRENTON, NJ — Today, Walker Worthy, Jr. issued the following statement:

“Under the new federal tax plan, Opportunity Zones that have high poverty rates or low income rates can have access to additional resources to attract businesses, such as lower federal taxes. Of the seven designated Opportunity Zones in Trenton, most are Downtown or in South Trenton, along the Delaware River. These areas are ripe for redevelopment and revitalization, we just need a forward thinking executive to cut through the bureaucracy and incentivize businesses to come here, so Trenton residents aren’t afraid to leave their homes at night and choose to spend nice evenings out in Trenton, rather than Philadelphia, Princeton or New Brunswick. We should have one of the most beautiful waterfronts anywhere on the East Coast, and as Mayor I will work to develop these blighted areas responsibly and sustainably, using all the tools available to me, including the tax incentives Opportunity Zones receive. I want to thank Governor Murphy for recognizing the potential Trenton has, and has always had, to be a driving economic force in New Jersey, and, if elected Mayor, I will make sure Downtown Trenton realizes its potential.”
