314 Action Fund Endorses Rebecca Bennett for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District

(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — 314 Action today endorsed Rebecca Bennett for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. Earlier this month, Bennett won the Democratic nomination to take on Representative Tom Kean Jr. in November.

“As a Navy helicopter pilot, chemical engineer, and a healthcare professional, Rebecca Bennett has the experience and expertise it takes to lead,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action.

“While Representative Kean Jr. has turned his back on his job, Bennett has spent her career in high-pressure situations, making critical decisions based on the evidence and breaking barriers as the 18th woman in American history to become a U.S. Naval test pilot. With her highly technical background as a chemical engineer and an experimental test pilot, she brings curiosity and precision to every decision—and in Congress, she will ensure America continues to lead advancements in scientific innovation. We’re proud to join the coalition of supporters behind Rebecca Bennett with our endorsement today and look forward to helping her flip the district in November," Naughton continued.

Bennett enters the general election as the clear frontrunner in this race. New polling from Z to A Research on behalf of 314 Action Fund found Rebecca Bennett leads Representative Tom Kean Jr. in a head-to-head matchup by 4 points—growing to five points when voters learn about her background. The poll also shows Independent voters favor Bennett by a staggering 17 points.

“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of 314 Action, an organization committed to electing leaders who believe in science, evidence, and results,” said Rebecca Bennett. “For too long, career politicians like Representative Tom Kean Jr. have failed to address the challenges facing working families across New Jersey. As costs continue to rise, too many people are struggling to afford healthcare, prescription medications, and everyday necessities. In Congress, I will fight to lower prescription drug prices, strengthen and modernize our healthcare system, and make New Jersey more affordable for everyone. I’ve dedicated my life to serving our country, and I’m ready to bring that same commitment to serving the people of NJ-07.”

Over the course of her career, Rebecca Bennett served as a U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, an officer in the Air National Guard, and as a leader in healthcare. She decided early to serve in the military, and earned an ROTC scholarship to study chemical engineering at Cornell University. Rebecca flew the MH-60 Seahawk for the Navy, and served in the armed forces for over 15 years as a helicopter pilot, experimental test pilot, and aircraft commander, and member of the Air National Guard. She was the 18th woman to become a U.S. Naval test pilot. When she left active duty, Rebecca chose to work in healthcare, from early-stage startups to Fortune 50 companies, because she wanted to continue mission-driven work to increase access to care, improve patients’ outcomes, and decrease costs for patients.
