Analilia Mejia Endorsed by SEIU NJ State Council: “Her Record Speaks for Itself”

Union representing over 20,000 essential workers backs Mejia’s congressional bid, citing her labor leadership and record of winning for working families

NEWARK – Analilia Mejia today announced the endorsement of the SEIU New Jersey State Council, which represents over 20,000 workers in health care, warehouse distribution centers, industrial laundries, public services, and related sectors.

“We are proud to endorse Analilia Mejia in her bid for Congress,” said Megan Chambers, President of the SEIU NJ State Council. “As a fellow labor leader, with an outstanding track record, Analilia has our whole-hearted support. Analilia understands firsthand the struggles and aspirations of working families, and has been a non-stop champion devoted to advancing economic justice, workers’ rights, and equity for communities too often overlooked.”

Mejia spent over a decade as a labor organizer with 32BJ SEIU, UNITE HERE, and UFCW, and then led the fights for New Jersey’s $15 minimum wage and paid sick leave.

“Her record speaks for itself,” added Latenya King, Vice President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. “Analilia’s work helped raise New Jersey’s minimum wage to $15 per hour, expand statewide paid sick leave, and strengthen protections for workers and immigrants. Her national recognition—including being named a ‘Champion of Change’ by President Obama—along with her service in the Biden administration and her success leading statewide grassroots campaigns, demonstrates her ability to build consensus and deliver results. We could not ask for a stronger champion for working families in Washington.”

The SEIU NJ State Council includes 1199 SEIU Healthcare Workers East; Laundry, Distribution and Food Service Joint Board of Workers United; The Committee of Interns and Residents; and 32BJ Motor Vehicle Inspectors.

“I’ve worked alongside SEIU’s members for years in the fights for a $15 minimum wage, paid sick days, and basic dignity on the job,” said Analilia Mejia. “These are the workers who keep our state running. I’m so proud to have their support.”
