Gee Running for Mercer County Democratic Party Chair

Democratic Party diehard James Gee is running to chair the Mercer County Committee, he told InsiderNJ this morning.

A longtime successful operative with deep state and federal experience, Gee served as a key strategist of the Analilia Mejia congressional campaign, ran Bonnie Watson Coleman's 2014 congressional campaign and was chair of Ras Baraka's 2024 gubernatorial campaign, an early statewide supporter of the Newark Mayor.

Gee intends to formally file for the countywide political position later today.

He is running against Ewing Councilwoman Jennifer Keyes Maloney.

Longtime Mercer County Democratic Committee Chair Janice Mironov is not pursuing reelection.

Gee says he believes it's time for a non-elected official to serve in the county leadership position, someone who knows how to more vitally connect Mercer's organization to Trenton state government and New Jersey's statewide political apparatus.

"We have had no leadership that understands or improves Trenton," said Gee.

Critically, the operative sees youthful energy and vitality in the state and believes Mercer Democrats do not adequately harness and organize that energy. "We are not training young people," he said.

The Mercer County Democratic convention is scheduled for June 30th.
