Marc Chaaban, Drops Out and Endorses Analilia Mejia For NJ-11

Analilia Mejia, political director for U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, defends Schools Development Authority (SDA) CEO Lizette Delgado-Polanco after Delgado-Polanco resigned her position under public allegations of nepotism in her hiring practices.

Marc Chaaban, who suspended his campaign for New Jersey’s 11th congressional district this week, announced today that he is endorsing Analilia Mejia for Congress.

Chaaban, a 25-year-old former congressional staffer who raised over $120,000 from nearly 1,000 grassroots donors in just three weeks, launched his campaign calling for “a new generation of leadership divorced from corruption and corporate PAC money.”

He said Mejia shares that commitment and encouraged others in the crowded field to consolidate behind her as the candidate best prepared on day one and best equipped to win.

“I got in this race because we need someone in Washington who will actually stand up to corporate power and fight for working families. Analilia has spent 25 years doing exactly that, and she’s the only reformer in this race who can win,” said Chaaban. “I have tremendous respect for all the candidates in this race, but with just weeks until election day it’s time for those who really want change to consolidate support. There’s so much at stake in this election and Analilia is our best chance to send a real fighter to Congress.”

Analilia Mejia is a proven policy leader who has passed major legislation at the local, state, and federal levels. As the former director of New Jersey Working Families, she led the fights that won New Jersey’s $15 minimum wage and paid sick days laws. At the national level, she served on the Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force, helping shape the administration’s agenda for working families, and later served in a leadership role in the U.S. Department of Labor. Like Chaaban, she has pledged to not accept corporate PAC money.

“Marc ran a strong grassroots campaign that called on all of us to demand more from our representatives. I’m grateful he answered the call to service at such an urgent time for our country. We need more voices like his in our party,” said Mejia. “Marc has a bright future in this movement, and I’m proud to be in this fight with him.”

Mejia’s campaign has drawn support from progressives across New Jersey and the country, including Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ro Khanna. Chaaban’s endorsement adds to the growing coalition of grassroots activists and young voters rallying behind her candidacy.

The primary election is on February 5, 2026.
