New Jersey Conference of Mayors Showcases Organizational Growth, Engagement, and Statewide Impact at April Board Meeting

Trenton, NJ — The New Jersey Conference of Mayors (NJCM) highlighted a year of historic growth, expanded influence, and strengthened statewide collaboration during its April 15, 2026, quarterly board meeting, where President Mayor Jason F. Cilento of Dunellen, New Jersey, delivered the annual impact report. Representing New Jersey’s 564 municipalities, NJCM experienced its highest level of mayoral participation in more than two decades during Mayor Cilento’s tenure. The organization saw record membership growth, a doubling of its Business Council, and a $200,000 increase in fundraising—resources that were reinvested directly into programming, advocacy, and member services.

Mayor Cilento’s leadership, in partnership with the Executive Board and the Board of Directors, focused on elevating mayors' voices in state-level decision-making, expanding engagement opportunities, and strengthening NJCM’s internal structure to better serve its members.

“This organization didn’t just move forward, it grew,” said Mayor Cilento. “We built something stronger, more connected, and more effective. We amplified the Mayor’s Megaphone from Main Street to State Street, ensuring that local leaders have a real seat at the table when policies are being shaped. The work we’ve done this past year has positioned NJCM not just for today, but for long-term success.”

Delivering Results for Municipal Leaders
Over the past year, NJCM significantly expanded its programming and statewide presence. The organization hosted the highest number of major events in over a decade, nearly two per quarter, including six large-scale regional and statewide gatherings that brought together hundreds of municipal leaders.

Key accomplishments include:
• Launch of the “Policy to Practice” initiative, connecting mayors directly with state agencies and policy experts to translate complex policy into actionable local solutions
• Creation and revitalization of NJCM subcommittees to improve organizational efficiency and strategic focus
• Expanded engagement with county mayors' associations and local leaders across New Jersey
• Hosting of a historic gubernatorial candidate panel, ensuring municipal priorities were represented ahead of a major statewide election
• Increased participation from state and federal officials in NJCM quarterly meetings, providing direct access to policy insights and decision-makers

NJCM also played a leading role in advancing discussions on some of the most pressing issues facing municipalities, including Energy Tax Receipts (ETR), the State Health Benefits Program, and the State Development and Redevelopment Plan.

Executive Director Amanda De Palma emphasized the lasting impact of the organization’s work. “From record engagement to meaningful policy advocacy, this past year has demonstrated what is possible when mayors come together with a shared purpose,” she said. “We’ve built a stronger foundation that will continue to benefit municipal leaders and the residents they serve for years to come.”

Leadership Transition and Continued Momentum
As NJCM looks ahead, leadership will transition to Mayor Jackie Veasy of Evesham Township, who will be sworn in as President at the organization’s Annual Spring Conference in May. “I’m honored to follow Mayor Cilento’s leadership during such a dynamic period of growth,” said Mayor Veasy. “NJCM is stronger, more engaged, and more influential than ever before. I look forward to continuing this momentum, expanding collaboration, strengthening advocacy, and ensuring that every mayor across New Jersey has the tools and voice they need to succeed.”

Mayor Cilento reaffirmed his continued commitment to the organization and its mission, noting that the progress made over the past year reflects a collective effort across NJCM’s leadership, staff, and membership.

NJCM 61st Annual Spring Conference – Registration Now Open
NJCM also announced that registration is now open for its 61st Annual Spring Conference, taking place Tuesday, May 19, through Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.

This year’s conference is poised to be the most impactful yet, featuring:
