Governor Sherrill Hands $52M to Abortion Providers Amid $3 Billion Deficit

Trenton, NJ — As Governor Mikie Sherrill delivers her first budget speech today, one line item shows exactly where her priorities lie: she is continuing Governor Murphy’s extreme, pro-abortion policies and making New Jersey families pay for them.

This budget keeps $52 million for family planning and reproductive health access. Of that, more than $30 million goes to clinics in every county to provide free abortions and abortion-related care — regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. Another $22 million goes into a new Reproductive Health Access Fund, explicitly designed to expand abortion across the state.

Over the last eight years, Planned Parenthood has already taken more than $268 million in New Jersey taxpayer dollars. Now, these same groups are dictating public policy, crafting legislation that singularly benefits them, including five reckless pro-abortion bills that just came out of committee yesterday.

At the same time, New Jersey is facing a $3 billion deficit caused by rising Medicaid costs, pension obligations, and out-of-control spending. Families are already crushed by sky-high property taxes and record-high living costs.

“Instead of focusing on education, infrastructure, and fiscal responsibility, Governor Sherrill is prioritizing funding abortion providers who end the lives of innocent unborn children and exploit women at a very vulnerable time in their lives, rather than providing the real help, counseling, and support that both mothers and babies desperately need,” said Marie Tasy, Executive Director of New Jersey Right to Life.

Nearly 59,830 abortions were performed in New Jersey last year alone — a tragic number that shows the state is failing New Jersey women. Taxpayer dollars should instead support programs that protect children, strengthen families, and safeguard women from being pushed into abortion — not funnel tens of millions to Planned Parenthood’s Abortion Business.

The people of New Jersey deserve better from the newly elected Governor and Legislature.
