The success rate for candidates listed on the New Jersey Public Education Coalition (NJPEC) “Like-Minded” BOE candidate list continues to rise.
For the third year in a row, the New Jersey Public Education Coalition (NJPEC), a grassroots unaffiliated organization, created a list of “like-minded” Board of Education candidates running in this election cycle. The determinations of which candidates would be placed on the list were made by research performed by NJPEC and its local members.
Once again, the percentage of candidates elected has increased from year to year. In 2023, the first year that the list was created, 61% percent of candidates on the list were elected. In 2024, 70.7% of candidates were elected. This year, 78% candidates on the list were elected.
NJPEC believes that these continuing increases represent a return to normalcy and indicate a rejection of extreme Board of Education candidates who have been attacking our public-school teachers and librarians, calling for censorship of curriculum and books and demanding the removal of curriculums designed to provide protection to students. Further, supporters of this extreme ideology have been attempting to drive a wedge between parents and teachers by calling teaches pedophiles and groomers, all in an attempt to break a fundamental relationship that supports public education.
In determining which Board of Education candidates would be included on the list, NJPEC continued its “party blind” determination and based its decision on whether the candidate’s public school policy was in alignment with that of the Coalition.
The primary goals of NJPEC are: 1) to protect public education from powers that seek to destabilize it, de-fund it and eventually, eliminate it; 2) to ensure that diversity and inclusion initiatives and curricula remain a part of our public schools so that our students will be properly prepared to interact with people of all background and cultures once they enter the working world; 3) to ensure that every child has a safe and inviting place to learn, free from harassment, intimidation, bullying and in some instances, physical assault; and 4) to ensure that all marginalized student communities are accepted.
