Vitale Statement on CDC Vote to Roll Back Hepatitis B Protection for Children
TRENTON – Senator Joe Vitale (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement:
“The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) decision to eliminate the Hepatitis B vaccination requirement is a serious step backward for public health. Hepatitis B is a preventable but potentially life-threatening disease, and vaccination remains one of the most effective tools we have to protect children and communities.
What is especially striking is that concern about this vote was bipartisan. Even a Republican senator publicly criticized the process and raised questions about the wisdom of moving forward. When lawmakers from both sides of the aisle express alarm, it should serve as a clear signal that something is wrong.
New Jersey has long recognized the value of strong, evidence-based immunization policies. I remain committed to ensuring that our state continues to follow the best available medical guidance so that families, schools, and healthcare providers can keep our residents safe.”
