When Light Becomes Love: Irvington Comes Together for a Night That Will Never Be Forgotten
Irvington, NJ – December 5, 2025 — On the evening of December 4th, something extraordinary happened in the heart of Irvington. Long before the lights switched on, long before the music began, the town gathered quietly under a cold winter sky—waiting, hoping, breathing in the magic of a night meant to lift spirits and warm hearts.
And then, together, we witnessed it.
Civic Square transformed—not just into a winter wonderland, but into a place where joy felt possible, where children laughed freely, and where neighbors stood shoulder to shoulder, reminded of the simple, powerful truth that we are stronger together than we could ever be alone.
A Moment That Felt Like a Blessing
As hundreds waited in anticipation, Mayor Tony Vauss stepped before the crowd, surrounded by the leaders who help carry this community forward—Council President Jamillah Beasley, Councilwoman Darlene Brown, Council Member Anthony Vauss Jr., Councilwoman Dr. October Hudley, and Superintendent Dr. April Vauss.
There was a hush. A stillness.
And then—
the lights exploded across Civic Square in a cascade of gold, red, and shimmering white.
Children cheered. Parents smiled. Strangers embraced. The air itself seemed to glow.
For a few breathtaking moments, the hardships of the year fell away. In those brilliant lights, families saw hope—bright, warm, and alive.
Voices That Touched the Soul
The voices of the Irvington High School Choir, Berkeley Terrace Choir, and Florence Avenue Choir rose into the crisp evening, filling Civic Square with harmonies that felt like prayers wrapped in melody.
Their songs—soft, soaring, heartfelt—reminded us all that the future of Irvington rests in the hands of its children, and those hands hold more light than many realize.
Magic in Every Corner
This year, Mayor Vauss wanted the children of Irvington to feel wonder—real wonder.
So he created it.
❄️ An ice-skating rink where little feet glided, wobbled, and soared
🚂 A holiday train weaving through Civic Square, carrying wide-eyed children on a ride they’ll never forget
🐑 A live petting zoo, offering moments of gentleness and connection many had never experienced before
For some children, it was their first time touching a sheep, hearing the soft breath of a llama, or watching a gentle goat nuzzle their tiny hands.
For all of them, it was magic.
The Mayor also handed out hundreds of gifts, each chosen with care, and gave $25 gift cards to grateful parents—quiet reminders that in Irvington, kindness is not an afterthought; it is a way of life.
Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived high atop the Fire Department’s beautifully decorated truck, waving with joy as cheers echoed through the Square.

A Leader Who Believes in His Community
The Christmas Light Spectacular was more than an event—it was a reflection of the deep love Mayor Vauss holds for every family, every child, and every corner of Irvington. He believes that when a town shines light together, it becomes unbreakable.
As Mayor Vauss offered his remarks, his voice carried a warmth that settled gently over the crowd:
“Tonight, these lights are more than decorations—they are a reminder that every child in Irvington deserves to feel seen, valued, and cherished. When we gather like this, we are telling our children that they matter, that their dreams matter, and that this community will always stand behind them. My heart is full because you—the people of Irvington—are the true light of this season.”
Township employees, police officers, firefighters, and Public Works teams worked tirelessly to bring the celebration to life, standing behind the Mayor with unwavering pride.
