Working Families Party Endorses Analilia Mejia in NJ-11 Primary
Mejia is the former state director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance
NEW JERSEY — Today, the New Jersey Working Families Party announced its endorsement of Analilia Mejia in the open-seat race for New Jersey’s 11th congressional district. Analilia is a former union organizer and previously served as director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance, political director for Bernie Sanders, and co-executive director of Popular Democracy.
“The Working Families Party is my political home, and it was the honor of my life to lead the organization in New Jersey during some of the toughest fights for our movement,” said Analilia Mejia. “Together, we won a $15 minimum wage, paid sick leave, and wage theft protections for hundreds of thousands of New Jersey workers — and we didn’t back down from our values once. I’m honored to have the WFP endorsement, because together in Congress, we will fight and win universal healthcare, universal childcare, and fair taxes on the billionaires of this country.”
“We’re thrilled to endorse Analilia Mejia for Congress. She’s a proven fighter and policy leader who knows exactly what it takes to deliver for working families,” said Antoinette Miles, state director for the NJ Working Families Party. “When leaders in both parties said we couldn’t raise wages or guarantee sick days for workers, Analila got it done. She knows that the status quo has left far too many families behind, and she won’t fold to corporations or billionaires. The WFP is all in to get her to Washington.”
Candidates who applied for the Working Families Party’s endorsement went through a rigorous application and interview process, before the NJ WFP state committee voted on the endorsement.
The New Jersey Working Families Party has become a major player in state politics. Just a few weeks ago, the NJWFP helped elect Jersey City Mayor-elect James Solomon and a slate of city councilmembers who will move the city in a more progressive direction. The Working Families Party PAC and Make the Road Action IEC spent a combined $300,000 boosting Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill among working class, Black, and Latino communities in the home stretch of a historic gubernatorial campaign. It also supported a number of state legislative candidates who won competitive primaries, like Katie Brennan and Chigozie Onyema. Finally, it endorsed Newark Mayor Ras Baraka in his second-place finish in a historic Gubernatorial primary.
Nationwide, the Working Families Party recently endorsed Mai Vang, who is challenging 20-year-incumbent Doris Matsui in CA-7; Brad Lander, who is challenging Rep. Dan Goldman in NY-10; Nida Allam, who is challenging Rep. Valerie Foushee in NC-4, and Randy Villegas who is running in the Republican held CA-22.
