Quijano Excoriates Trump over Exclusionary Prez Order

Assemblywoman Annette Quijano (D-20) condemned a memorandum signed by President Trump today that would bar the U.S. Census Bureau from counting undocumented immigrants in the 2020 Census. Quijano issued the following statement:

“There is a clear U.S. Constitutional requirement that every person in America be counted in the Census.

“The courts should see this as the xenophobic policy plan that it is. When the Trump Administration tried to add a citizenship question to the Census form, the U.S. Supreme Court justifiably blocked it.

“I am confident that justice will prevail again and this latest hateful stunt will be struck down.

“The president should be vilified for again attempting to ostracize and exclude hard-working, taxpaying undocumented immigrants, many of whom have been, and still are, working on the frontlines as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to cripple our nation.

“Once again, the president should be ashamed of himself, but I’m not certain shame is in his emotional repertoire.”
