Report: Handlin Won’t Seek Reelection

The Freeholder fight unites more than it delights.

Assemblywoman Amy Handlin (R-13) is serving her last term in the Legislature.

The 13th District Republican lawmaker told NorthJersey.com:

“Since this will be my last term in the Legislature, I look at it as an ordinary taxpayer and ask, ‘What else are they putting on my tab without telling me? Why give them more and more of my money when I’m the last one to know how it’s spent?’ ” Handlin said.

Here’s that story.

Handlin, 62, defeated Joe Azzolina in the 2005 GOP Primary.

Upon the retirement announcement of former state Senator Joe Kyrillos (R-13), she attempted to run for the district senate seat but lost the backroom contest to state Senator Declan O’Scanlon (R-13), who secured the seat last year.

Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick issued the following statement:

“Amy Handlin has always been a leader.  A serious legislator who studies the issues, she is a measured voice in Trenton.  Amy is an ethical and dedicated elected official and very well respected by all.  I respect her decision, yet she will be missed.”
