With dozens of supporters wearing Hyland for Congress shirts on stage behind him, patriotic music playing in the background and a multitude of supporters in the crowd, Congressional candidate Shawn Hyland officially launched his campaign for the 3rd Congressional District at Veterans Park in Bayville, NJ today.

The Republican wants to displace incumbent U.S. Rep. andy Kim (D-3).

Prior to Hyland taking the stage, his wife Glennys Hyland gave a speech on her journey to American citizenship since immigrating from Honduras, emphasizing her deep love for America.

Shawn Hyland went on to emphasize the “urgent need to overcome our current challenges and rise up with conservative values and founding principles.” At times, quoting Reagan and Lincoln, he contrasted his vision with what he described as “the angry, pro-Marxist, anti-American extremism currently coming from the far left.”

“My campaign has the energy and early grassroots support we need to compete in the 3rd . We will have the financial support to mount a competitive race and will successfully retire Andy Kim next November so the constituents of my district can have a congressman that truly represents their views on national policy issues.” said Hyland.

The Republican is seeking his party’s nomination in the Burlington-Ocean CD3.

He noted, “The voters of the third congressional district deserve a voice who will represent their interests and values in Washington DC. Shawn Hyland will be that voice. Join the journey for ‘A Better America.’

Before joining Family Policy Alliance of New Jersey, the Republican candidate served as the New Jersey State Coordinator for Christians United for Israel – the largest pro-Israel organization in the world with 10 million members. In 2018-2019, he led an Ocean County faith-based initiative “Love Your Neighbor”, in partnership with the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, to inspire tens of thousands of residents to stand against racism and prejudice. He launched Serve Jersey Shore community service weeks in cooperation with dozens of churches and thousands of volunteers, (2017-2018).

He was raised in Ocean County and has lived in the current congressional district for thirty-six years. He has been an ordained minister since 2006 and resides in the Bayville section of Berkeley Township with his wife of twenty-one years Glennys Hyland. Together, they have four children ages 27, 23, 17, and 16.
