Senator Ronald Rice on Appointment of Rev. Ronald Slaughter to NJ Parole Board: ‘You May Not Like Him; He’s Like Me’

Senator Ronald Rice says that he will not vote on a NJ state budget that doesn't include $140 million in cost savings gained through a marijuana decriminalization and expungement law that eliminates unjust judicial and correctional practices targeting poor, minority and urban residents.

Following the Senate’s affirmation of Reverend Ronald Slaughter to sit on the state Parole Board, veteran state Senator Ronald L. Rice (D-28) congratulated Slaughter.

“You may not like him; he’s like me,” said the veteran senator, referring to what he said was Slaughter’s habit of opposing power.

“There’s only one Ron Rice, you know that,” Sweeney beamed.

A native of Orlando, FL, Slaughter is the youngest pastor in history to serve as Senior Pastor of Saint James AME Church in Newark.
