Roberts Delighted by the Apparent Ascent of Protege Singleton

SWEDESBORO – Assemblyman Troy Singleton (D-7) appears in good position to snag a vacancy today created by the retirement of Senator Diane Allen (R-7), and one of his political mentors celebrated that likely eventuality. “I’m delighted by it, and know he will do a great job,” former Speaker Joe Roberts (D-5) said of former Majority Office staffer Singleton.

InsiderNJ asked Roberts about the likelihood of Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3) and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy getting along in Trenton if they both win today – and on what he sees in this election – both statewide and here in LD3.

“There’s always going to be differences,” said Roberts, “but it’s a testament to Steev Sweeney that he’s [Murphy] here. Steve Sweeney is going to do very, very well and obviously he will be the senate president again. The governor’s election in many ways is a referendum on Chris Christie and to some extent on Donald Trump and that is of some assistance to Phil, but Phil Murphy is in tune with New Jersey in a way that Kim Guadagno is not.”
