Senate Prez Sweeney Defeats Grenier, NJEA in LD3

In the most expensive legislative contest in New Jersey history, Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3)beat the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA)-backed Republican Fran Grenier.

Sweeney produced big numbers out of his home county of Gloucester to beat Grenier of Salem County.

The senate president – an ironworker by trade – had considerable visible Election Day ground game support from the Building Trades.

“Teachers are very good people, they sacrifice, but unfortunately they have poor leadership,” Sweeny told the crowd at this victory party tonight. “But this is the biggest victory I have ever had. This proves why it’s hard to do the right thing, but we did and we kicked ass.”
