Senator Lagana Addresses school violence and mental health issues on State of Affairs

Sen. Joseph Lagana (D) – NJ, Vice Chair of the Senate Labor Committee, joins Steve Adubato to address mental health legislation for students in response to school shootings, as well as property taxes in New Jersey.

Steve Adubato talks with Senator Lagana about school safety and why it’s a top priority for his platform. Senator Lagana says the rise in school shootings in this country should concern all of us and highlight the need to secure our schools properly. Senator Lagana has prioritized mental health in all schools and says, “we need to make sure that students are given the appropriate tools, as well as to ensure that they recognize children who are suffering from anxiety and depression as it’s happening.

Senator Lagana also addresses New Jersey’s taxes and the ANCHOR property tax program that Governor Murphy advocated. “I think when we look long term, which we need to do more, we need to look at the root of why property taxes are so high. We need to look at the programs that we’re funding to ensure that the money’s going to the right place.”
