Sherrill Reappointed to House Armed Services Committee

U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-11), a former officer in the U.S. Navy, was reappointed to the House Armed Service Committee for the 118th Congress.

“My highest priority in Congress is meeting the needs of New Jersey’s Eleventh District, and my place on the Armed Services Committee is a valuable means of fighting for our priorities.” said Rep. Sherrill. “Serving on HASC allows me to continue my strong advocacy for the excellent work of Picatinny Arsenal, which is critical to our country’s national security and defense as well as the economic success of the state. Over the next two years, I will work to support our service members and their families, advance cutting-edge research and innovation, reduce the Department of Defense’s emissions, and provide additional security assistance to Ukraine.”

Earlier this month, the Congresswoman visited Picatinny Arsenal to meet with Brigadier General John T. Reim and the leadership of the Armaments Center to receive a briefing on the Department of Defense’s munitions enterprise, and discuss Picatinny’s priorities for this year.

Picatinny Arsenal is one of the largest employers in NJ-11, with more than 6,000 employees, and supports thousands of additional jobs across New Jersey. Rep. Sherrill is a fierce advocate for Picatinny, most recently securing funding in the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which will ensure the base remains the Army’s leading research institution for armaments and ammunition. Through her work on the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Sherrill brought roughly $2 billion into the North Jersey economy through funding for Picatinny and our local defense companies in the NDAA.

Rep. Sherrill is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served in the Navy for almost 10 years as a helicopter pilot and Russian policy officer. During her tenure in Congress, Rep. Sherrill sat on the Tactical Air and Land Forces and Intelligence and Special Operations Subcommittees on HASC.

  1. Speaker McCarthy needs to review Congresscritter Mikie Sherrill’s background because of her heavy involvement in investments in Chinese Communist companies Alibaba, Huawei and Tencent. Sherrill should not be on the HASC. She’s a Trojan Horse shill for the ChiComs.
