Sherrill Takes a Swing at GOP Congressional Leadership

TRENTON - With time ticking down to the Nov. 3rd election, Governor Mikie Sherrill got in on the action with a hard elbow thrown at GOP congressional leadership.

"Back in 2024 when I served in the house, there was a bill that would have held big tech's feet to the fire," Sherrill recalled at a press conference today. "It passed the Senate, 91-3, but House Republican leadership killed the bill after Meta made a few donations and announced a plan to build a huge data center in Louisiana. A data center mattered more than our kids' safety. If Washington won't lead on keeping our kids safe from big tech..."

She will, she said.

To that end, the Governor announced that the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education selected Rutgers University as home of the state's social media center.

"Over the next year the center will measure the effects of social media on our kids... and [among other things] partner with lawmakers [on policy initiatives]," Sherrill said.
