Signs cropped up in Jersey City tonight signaling a potential state senate bid by Assemblywoman Angela McKnight (D-31) against veteran state Senator Sandy Cunningham.

One Hudson source speculated that a McKnight candidacy would throw a vote to Senator Nick Sacco (D-32) if rumors are true that the North Bergen boss intends to undertake a crack at the senate presidency.

Cunningham is a stout backer of South Jersey incumbent Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3).

It’s volatile, but a source close to the assemblywoman told InsiderNJ that she was as surprised as anyone by the signs and has no plans to oppose Cunningham. A second source also told InsiderNJ not to pay attention to the signs.
