Smith Wins in CD-4

U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (R-4) – New Jersey’s longest-serving congressman – was on pace to win the Republican Primary on Tuesday night, outlasting a spirted challenge from the right undertaken by Mike Cripsi.

From the Associated Press:

14,979 votes 37.3%
Steve Gray

Mike Blasi

A former conservative talk show host, Crispi was irritated by Smith’s support for a bipartisan commission to look into the Jan. 6th, 2021 insurrection at the United States Capitol; and because the congressman backed President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan, among other things.

In the end, it wasn’t enough to defeat an entrenched incumbent who enjoys considerable establishment support and the county lines.

At 9:35 p.m., the AP called the race for Smith.

  1. Yaaaay…Chris Smith has always been there for us Seni. We know that he will continue to do the right things badly needed in and for ALL the people of the great state of New Jersey.
