Source: Berman Favorite for U.S. Attorney Post

Geoffrey Berman of Greenberg Taurig is the favorite to succeed Paul Fishman as U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, a source told InsiderNJ.

Berman was a member of the Trump Transition Team.

From 1990 to 1994, he served as Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York where he handled complex criminal prosecutions, including tax and securities violations.  From 1987 to 1990, he was Associate Counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel Iran-Contra, where, according to his biography on Greenberg Taurig, he prosecuted a former CIA employee for tax fraud.

Berman graduated from the University of Pennsylvania (B.A.) and the Wharton School (B.S.) in 1981, where he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma. In 1984, he received his J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he was Note Editor of the Stanford Law Review. After graduating law school, he clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit for the Honorable Leonard I Garth.
